Off to SF
Posted by John Manzo on January 31, 2008
My consulting project takes me to San Francisco this weekend, from tomorrow until Wednesday, Feb 6. I have a love-hate attitude towards SF, the “hate” part owing to what I think is the worst and most evident urban poverty (especially homelessness) I’ve ever seen, all in a city where rich hipsters flock to pay $2500/mo for a studio apartment because they “can’t imagine living anywhere else.” Last time I was there was August 2004. Are things better or worse now? We’ll see.

John,
I hope you enjoy your trip to SF.
I just discovered your site and share, at a minimum, your interest in good coffee. Since you will be in SF, you should try Blue Bottle Roasters, which has fantastic espresso. Check out espressomap.com for quality coffee options when you travel.
Bon voyage,
Jason

Been there twice already Jason- 4 group GB5, a two-group old la san marco for SO espresso (it wasn’t ready on either visit sadly) and that famous Japanese vacuum system. This is at their new cafe at 66 Mint St, it’s been open only about a week.

John,
Happy to hear that you have enjoyed some good coffee in SF. I should have anticipated that you would know about Blue Bottle. Silly me!
I have not been to the new place, but I have tried the shed (the one on Linden, i.e., in the recently gentrified area). I’m sure the coffee is great at either location.
Enjoy the rest of your trip. See you at Bumpy’s sometime, if I haven’t seen you there already.

John,
If I could afford to, I’d move there in a heartbeat. Sure the rents are high, but the tradeoffs are huge.
It’s interesting that you are in Calgary. So is a very good friend of mine!
