Brian and I are heading to Newfoundland (the province is technically “Newfoundland and Labrador,” but like the vast majority of visitors to it we’ll only be on the island of Newfoundland) in a few hours. It’s a long trip- four hours to Toronto, two-ish hour layover, then two hours to Deer Lake, in western Newfoundland. We’ll be spending four nights in that area, the first night at a motel near the Deer Lake airport and then the next three at the gorgeous Neddie’s Harbour Inn. On Wednesday we fly (on a little Beechcraft, I think- a turboprop in any case) to St John’s where Brian will be attending a conference. We’re staying at the uninspiring-looking Delta St John’s for four nights and will be coming home on Sunday. This flight is direct but stops for almost an hour in Ottawa, and as it fights the prevailing winds en route, it’s also a very long flight.
This is the first time in Newfoundland for either of us, so we don’t know what, exactly, to expect. One thing we do know is that cell phone service, never mind mobile data access, will be spotty or nonexistent for the first leg, so that will be interesting. We also know we’ll in in thrall of amazing sights and I’ll look forward to taking and posting pics when I get the chance.
Happy May Long Weekend, everybody!
